I was going to make a few long dresses for the stash contest and chose this as the first one… Well, the way the project went, it may be the only one, but here we go. I had this rayon challis from a FabricMart sale for about a year and the pattern from a deep sale in Fabricville from about that time also. I go to outdoor salsa dancing events and wanted a splashy dress that would move well but did not expose much – the split and the cowl would come in handy.
The project went smoothly until the very end… I was going to wear the dress that day already… where I discovered that the back will expose most of my bras and I decided to shorten the straps. The back, when raised had created a huge gap at the back zipper. When I fiddled with the zipper, the zipper pull came off and I could not put it back on, so here goes the zipper in the garbage and the new zipper in. The dress almost went in the garbage also!
My earnest advice is to forget the back zipper and do a side one instead, the dress would be so much easier to fit then.
To have the dress end where it was on the model, I shortened it dress by about 20cm (8 inches!). That woman must be 6 feet tall!
Despite the fact that I really hated this pattern for a week or so, I will make this again when a cute cut of rayon challis comes along – with the side zipper this time.
