- for fine fabrics such as silk, check several types of interfacing before deciding on one
- make a test buttonhole BEFORE making the garment. If the buttonholes will not work, do a button loop closing, hiding them under a placket, etc.
- baste around the buttonhole so the layers of fabric will not slip and slide during the stitching
